Szymon Goldberg and Miyoko Yamane’s Collection
"Goldberg the Polish-Jew [3]Interaction with artists"
April 20 - July 17, 2023

The works of art collected by Szymon Goldberg [1909-1993] and donated by his wife, Miyoko, in 2006 are introduced in this exhibition.
Born in Poland, the musician Szymon Goldberg led a turbulent life on account of his Jewish ancestry. Starting this season, a three-part series will focus on the artists who had an influence on Goldberg's life. This season's third installment of the series focuses on the artists with whom Goldberg interacted. His art collection, which seemed to resonate with his tumultuous life, was primarily composed of works by artists who faced hardships brought about by the Nazi regime. Among them were Italian sculptor Marini, Bayer who was also active as a member of Bauhaus, painter Reichel, and Rabus, with whom Goldberg had direct personal relationships. In this exhibition, along with works from Goldberg's former collection housed in our museum, we introduce a selection of materials from the collection of the collection of the Center for Music Research, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts that demonstrate the artist's interactions with other artists. On the 30th anniversary of Goldberg's passing this year, why not take a moment to contemplate the lives of the artists who survived the tumultuous 20th century?
