Drifting Objects of Dreams: The Collection of Shuzo Takiguchi
Shuzo Takiguchi (1903–1979) was born in what is now Toyama City and moved to Tokyo just before turning 18 in 1921. There, he encountered Surrealism, the forefront of artistic thought at the time. Influenced by this movement, he experimented with poetry while also writing numerous influential poetry and art critiques, becoming known as a logical pillar of Surrealism in Japan. Post-war, he developed a unique perspective derived from this movement and emerged as a prominent art critic, surrounded by young artists and championing the art of the new era. He was also an artist who produced his own works.
In Shuzo Takiguchi's study, there were various items collected from artists he interacted with, such as Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp, and Jasper Johns, including gifted artworks and objects, as well as his own favorite finds. This exhibition, titled Drifting Objects of Dreams: The Collection of Shuzo Takiguchi, introduces a digest of these collections, featuring works from both renowned international artists and unknown objects.
