Shuzo Takiguchi's Artistic Practice and Creations 2

Shuzo Takiguchi (1903-1979), a poet and art critic from Toyama Prefecture, is also known as an artist.  In 1958, after Takiguchi returned from his only trip to Europe as a Japanese representative and judge for the Venice Biennale, Takiguchi gradually began to feel hindered in writing journalistic criticism. As a result, his writing came to consist mainly of poems and texts addressed to friends, and with the "experimental spirit" consistent throughout Takiguchi's activities, he began to devote his energy to formative art activities as a practitioner and experimenter.
This time, following last year's exhibition, we focus on Takiguchi's techniques, featuring works not introduced previously, including "decalcomania," a transfer method that is a representative technique of Surrealism, "rotodessins" which applied Marcel Duchamp's 《rotorelief》, and watercolor paintings reminiscent of drawings by Art Informel artists.

Another 《Catcher of Lightening》
In this exhibition, we also examine works with the same title 《Catcher of Lightening》by Kano Mitsuo (1933-)and Shimizu Akira(1936-).
Takiguchi wrote "Inazuma to Haikaisho" (Lightning and Wandering Excerpts) as a preface to Kano's series of prints 《Catcher of Lightening》 which began in 1976. This was published in the 1978's poetry and art collection 「《Catcher of Lightening》Elements」 under the revised title "With 《Catcher of Lightening》" in its original manuscript form. However, preceding Kano's 《Catcher of Lightening》, Shimizu had already presented a collage work with the same title in 1968. Here, we introduce the two 《Catcher of Lightening》   by Kano and Shimizu.

LINKS-Kikuhata Mokuma
LINKS-Kikuhata Mokuma In the final section, marking five years since the passing of Kikuhata Mokuma (1935-2020), who was active as a key member of the avant-garde group "Kyushu-ha," we will exhibit one of Kikuhata's works from the Takiguchi collection, along with works by other Kyushu-ha members Kinoshita Shin(1929-2001) and Sakurai Takami(1928-2016). This is in cooperation with the project 「LINKS-Kikuhata Mokuma」organized by the Mokuma Kikuhata Blue Home Art Association, which aims to display Kikuhata's works from museums across the country in exhibitions at various art museums.
