The maestro’s room (3)
Daily life, beauty, and playfulness
This year, along with the art collection bequeathed to our museum by Goldberg, we will be showcasing selected items from the former possessions of Goldberg, held by The Music Research Center at Tokyo University of the Art. Over the course of three exhibitions, we will feature mainly the objects he kept close and cherished.
The first installment will be focused on Asia and Australia, while the second will present objects from Africa and other regions. This final installment will focus on the unusual and beautiful objects collected by Goldberg that added color to the maestro's daily life.
A cute chess set with tiny pieces, a compact but solid triptych icon, a scale adorned with illustrative engravings on small boxes and weights, and a beautifully crafted compass -- all are small and easy to carry items. At the time they were made, they were probably used as travel accessories. This collection is fitting for Goldberg, who traveled the world on concert tours.
Photographs of him playing with his cat at home or intently studying sheet music offer a glimpse into the daily life of this great musician. Take a look back on the maestro in his prime, who loved beautiful things, faced his work with seriousness, and yet never forgot his playful side.
