Szymon Goldberg and Miyoko Yamane’s CollectionⅢ

November 2, 2023 - February 6, 2024

Theme: Szymon Goldberg as a soloist and pianist(1) Radu Lupu

Szymon Goldberg (1909-1993) was one of the leading violinists and conductors of the 20th century. Focusing on the pianists with whom Szymon performed as a soloist, we will introduce materials showing the performance activities with Szymon over two periods.

The first installment of the series features Romanian pianist Radu Lupu (1945-2022). The two met at The Leeds International Pianoforte Competition, where Szymon was a judge. Szymon listened to Radu perform Schubert's Improvisations No. 1 D. 899 Op. 90-1 in C minor and highly praised his performance. This encounter led to the two forming a duo and performing in London in the 1970s.

Please think about the artworks collected by Szymon, who loved beautiful things, and the interactions between him and this young pianist through delicate music.
